The artist’s publication for the Lebanese pavilion of the 55th Venice Biennale

During the Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon in 1982, a rumor circulated that a fighter pilot was ordered to bomb a school in Saida – of which Zaatari's father was the founder – but refused and instead dumped his bombs into the sea. The school was eventually bombed by another pilot and severely damaged.

Akram Zaatari's installation at the Lebanese pavilion of the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013, entitled Letter to a Refusing Pilot, focused on the pilot’s act of conscientious objection.

-scope Ateliers was in charge of the design and layout of a publication/tabloid that has accompanied Letter to a Refusing Pilot.
